After all, how can you concentrate on your studies on an empty stomach? \nFate has not spared the children of the Brickaville region, hit by cyclones every year. husbandry, innovation, etc.\nWe hope to achieve self-sufficiency within 3 years.\nOur aim is not to provide assistance, but to be the initiator of a mechanism which, we hope, will be able to function on its own after 2 or 3 years.\nThe project budget is estimated at \u20ac220,000, 80% of which will be covered by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 5% by our partners at MEDAF Indeed, this is the school that is the most advanced: the vegetable garden and a well have already been built, and the canteen committee is in place. We hope to have the canteen up and running after our summer vacation, at the start of the 4th quarter of 2019.\nIt's also now that William, our volunteer, is moving to Brickaville. After all, how can you concentrate on your studies on an empty stomach? <br>Fate has not spared the children of the Brickaville region, which is hit by cyclones every year. They are the first victims, even though they represent the future of this country\u2014ranked as the 5th poorest in the world.<br>In times of hardship, parents often pull their children out of school to work in the fields, as feeding the family becomes the priority.<br>To prevent this situation and ensure children no longer stay at school with empty stomachs, EDI Madagascar will establish school canteens in 6 primary schools (reaching approximately 1,500 children). These canteens will provide at least one meal per day\u2014often the only meal many of them will have.   <br>Our goal is to make the school canteens self-sufficient. The creation of vegetable gardens and community farms, established by parents and managed by students under the supervision of their teachers, serves both as a source of food supply for the canteens and as a fun and practical learning opportunity.<br>The implementation of income-generating activities will help cover additional financial needs : <\/p><ul><li>Providing farmers and fishermen with equipment in exchange for a portion of their production to supply the school canteen,<\/li><li>Setting up rice hulling, fish farming, river transport, and other income-generating activities.<\/li><\/ul><p>All these activities will be supported by ad hoc training sessions in areas such as savings, horticulture, livestock farming, innovation, and more.<br>Self-sufficiency is expected to be achieved within three years.<br>Our goal is not to provide long-term aid, but rather to initiate a dynamic that, we hope, can function independently after 2 to 3 years.<br>The project budget is estimated at \u20ac220,000, with 80% covered by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 5% by our partners at MEDAF Luxembourg.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #4e4e4e;\">Don&#8217;t you It\u2019s the most advanced so far: the vegetable garden and a well have already been completed, and the canteen management committee is in place. We hope to have the canteen fully operational after our summer break, at the start of the 4th quarter of 2019.<br \/>This also marks the arrival of William, our volunteer, who is settling in Brickaville. He will be a valuable asset in launching and energizing this project. construction contract for the Sahatakoly kitchen was signed earlier this month, and work can now begin.<br \/>Meanwhile, an abandoned building was found on the grounds of the Vohitranivona school. Rather than building a new kitchen from scratch, our volunteer William negotiated with the CISCO chief to rehabilitate the structure and convert it into a kitchen and a classroom for preschool children, who currently do not have a proper facility. The cost of refurbishing the building and creating the classroom will be roughly equivalent to building a new kitchen.
