Completed Project – Luxembourg
Sekoly for All, that's cool!
Sekoly means school in Malagasy. The objective of this awareness project is to educate children about the overall situation of their peers in Madagascar, focusing particularly on education, culture, ecology, and social and economic life. The project aims to help the target audience understand the inequalities in access to education between Luxembourg and Madagascar, especially the local reality faced by the majority of children on the Big Island. The project runs throughout the year 2021.

The canoe in the Malagasy house Mahajanga
After the presentation of the awareness project "Sekoly for everyone, it's cool" at the Atert-Lycée Redange (ALR) last May, the construction of the Malagasy canoe by the students of "Liewensschoul" was successfully completed in June. It is now on display for several years at the Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg, inside the Malagasy House of Mahajanga. Next to it, an explanatory plaque highlights the vital importance of this vessel in the daily life of Malagasy people. It also illustrates the harsh reality faced by communities along the East coast of Madagascar, where the NGO E.D.I. Madagascar carries out its work.
What’s stopping you from taking a little trip there ? 🤷♂️🚶♀️⛵
We would like to thank the students of the “Liewensschoul” school project at Atert-Lycée Rédange for this magnificent masterpiece, the head of the ALR wood workshop, the Burfelt Forest Discovery Centre of the Nature and Forest Administration for donating the tree trunk, and the Parc Merveilleux of Bettembourg for their collaboration.

Cooking workshop
"A moment that made us travel deliciously, just long enough to prepare a tasty exotic dish with distant flavors." Did you know you can cook a complete and well-balanced Malagasy meal yourself? 🤔🍲🧆🎂 Made up of: A starter: spring rolls and samosas. A main course: Mi-Sao with caramelized pork or noodles with chicken escalope. A dessert: passion fruit cake or cookies shaped like the map of Madagascar and Luxembourg. Well, the E.D.I. Madagascar team shared the recipe on July 20, 2021, at the Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg. A two-hour workshop was dedicated to Malagasy cuisine. Both kids and adults discovered new recipes they can now try at home during their free time. Vaccination certificates were checked, and for the rest, a rapid test was carried out. It was very kind of the Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg to provide the kitchen space for this cooking workshop.

A little visit to Schoul Kietscht.
Vacation time is over—mandatory classes have resumed for all schoolchildren in Luxembourg. 👨🎓👩🎓👨🏫
A new class for Mr. Decker from the École Fondamentale of Koetschette! The E.D.I. Madagascar and IKL teams introduced his students to one of the key activities of the project “Sekoly for all, it’s cool!”—an activity that had already been carried out at this school in June, but with a different class and teacher.
This visit marks the conclusion of a sub-activity within the project, aimed at helping students understand the differences in access to quality basic education between countries, particularly between Luxembourg and Madagascar.
A big thank you to Schoul Kietscht! 🤝

Sports and Fun Day at Schoulkauz
Off we go for a new adventure of fun and sports days in schools! ⛹️♂️🏃♀️🥇🃏
Wilwerwiltz Primary School was the first to benefit from the 8 workshops organized by E.D.I. Madagascar, in collaboration with the LFDF (Luxembourg Flying Disc Federation) and CAPA (Ettelbruck Athletics Club), on September 21, 2021.
A day that begins with a little warm-up consisting of finding photos of Malagasy animals. Each photo found equals one piece of sports equipment sent to Madagascar. But that’s not all, a little challenge awaits our schoolchildren!! 💪
These supplies can only reach their destination thanks to kilometers completed virtually during the 8 workshops (tire running, memory, jumping workshops (long jump and pole vault), obstacle course with puzzle piece collection, throwing workshop (distance and target), Frisbee throw, disc golf, jacks).
Teamwork, strong motivation, and perseverance during the workshops at Schoulkauz made it possible to collect more than the 8,755 km that separate the two countries.
For Wilwerwiltz, the 60 photos collected—equal to 60 pieces of sports equipment—will therefore reach their destination at a school in the eastern region of Madagascar.
The workshops were carried out in compliance with pandemic restriction measures. Vaccination certificates were checked, and for the others, a rapid test was conducted.
Thank you to the Primary School of Wilwerwiltz for their dedication in carrying out the project “Sekoly for all, it’s cool!”

Sporty and Fun Day – Schoul Kietscht
Sportswear on, 8 a.m.—the second round of our sporty and fun day is taking place this time at the Fundamental School of Koetschette.
One week after the second screening of the short film at this school, E.D.I. Madagascar and its partners return to raise awareness among the children through sports.
“Let’s give our best to reach the kilometers separating Luxembourg from Madagascar so the sports equipment can get there,” says one of the students.
Joy, fun, motivation, love for challenges, team spirit... all emotions and personal strengths were present! A wonderful moment shared with the students of Schoul Kietscht.
Challenge accomplished: the sports equipment earned by the students will soon arrive at the partner schools in Madagascar.

Final round for a sporty and fun day – Angsber Schoul
September 29, 2021 – the weather wasn’t on our side this time. All activities took place in the gym. As a result, the tire run had to be replaced by a relay race.
In total, 70 students from cycles 3 and 4 took part in the day. The students from Fischbach School were almost three times more numerous than those from Koetschette and Wilwerwiltz.
Thanks to good time management by the organizers and strong motivation from the students, the kilometers separating Luxembourg and Madagascar were successfully covered.
Reward? A gold medal was awarded to each child. 🥇
Enjoy the beautiful moments spent by the children on each photo ! 😊

Guided tour of the Malagasy house of Mahajanga
A representative part of Madagascar's fauna and flora can be found in the Malagasy house of Mahajanga at the Parc Merveilleux in Bettembourg. The visit to this part of the Big Island aimed to bring to life the workshops conducted after the short film and to reinforce all the knowledge the children had acquired about the local situation in Madagascar.
The visit took place on October 6, 2021, and was led by two zoologists from the Parc de Bettembourg, accompanied by the E.D.I. Madagascar team and its volunteers.
The visit included several workshops: a stop at the photo exhibition room; a world geography quiz; identifying and guessing trees from images (baobab, ravinala, etc.); smelling and touching seeds discovered during the workshops after the film screening (cloves, cocoa, vanilla, etc.); feeding animals (different species of lemurs); touching the empty shell of a radiated tortoise from Madagascar and the skin of a snake; an explanation of the importance of the traditional canoe (pirogue); and awareness-raising about the extinction of endemic species and deforestation.
The weather was not ideal on the day of the visit, but our visitors showed great determination.

First letter exchange between schools in Luxembourg and Madagascar
The awareness project activities are coming to an end. The school twinning is the most integral part of the project, as it ensures its continuity.
At the end of November 2021, five cycle 4 classes in Luxembourg enthusiastically committed to writing letters describing their daily lives, along with drawings of Luxembourg’s landscapes. In Madagascar, five classes also responded to this initiative.
In January 2022, the schools in Luxembourg received replies to their letters.
This exchange will help improve the language skills of both students and teachers in the two countries. It is also a rich source of cultural discovery.
