Madagascar faces persistent poverty, with a GDP per capita of only 531 dollars in 2022. In Tamatave, many street children live in conditions of violence and exploitation. The pandemic and global conflicts have worsened this situation, increasing the number of vulnerable children on the streets.
The Centre Enfants de Joie, in partnership with Mitia Madagasikara and EDI Madagascar, has launched a project to improve the care and support of these children. The project aims to rehabilitate the shelter and increase its capacity to accommodate 60 street children, both with and without disabilities, in order to provide them with a safe environment and sustainable future prospects.
The project is based on a complementary partnership between CEJ, Mitia Madagasikara, and EDI Madagascar :
Mitia Madagasikara manages the operational aspects of the project.
EDI Madagascar, a Luxembourgish NGO, provides financial and operational expertise and ensures effective coordination.
The objective of the project is to fully rehabilitate the Centre Enfants de Joie, increase its capacity to accommodate 60 residents, and guide them towards overall self-sufficiency, for the benefit of street children and children with disabilities in Tamatave.
In addition to the support provided to children, our project also contributes to the dynamism of the local economy by engaging local entrepreneurs and service providers for the rehabilitation work and various associated services.
Furthermore, local authorities benefit directly from the refurbishment of the facilities, which enhances the quality of services offered to vulnerable populations.
